Joseph A Carty II
Following three years in the army, which included nine months service with the United Nations Peace Keeping Force in Cyprus, Joseph Carty started his career in security and investigation by serving over fourteen years as a member of An Garda Siochana (the Irish police force).
During his police service Mr Carty achieved the rank of Detective Sergeant, having had responsibilities for diplomatic protection of the Irish missions in the United States of America, Belgium and the Court of St. James.
The last seven years of Mr Carty's service were in the Special Branch, the most elite task group of the Garda. Whilst the IRA movement was the main concern of the unit, they were also involved in dealing with armed robberies and subversives.
Following numerous dramatic incidents, Joseph Carty was awarded the Celtic Cross for Bravery as well as being complemented by a former Taoiseach (Prime Minister) and three Justice Ministers.
